Microscope Parts and Functions

The exact design may vary by model, but these components perform the same basic functions on most compound microscopes.

Trinocular PortProvides a dedicated connection point for a microscope camera or imaging device on trinocular models.
EyepieceThe lens you look through to view the magnified image. Common eyepiece magnifications include 10X.
360° Rotating Viewing Head BaseAllows the viewing head to rotate for a more comfortable observing position or easier shared viewing.
Revolving NosepieceHolds the objective lenses and rotates to switch between different magnification levels.
Objective LensThe primary magnifying lens positioned close to the specimen. Different objectives provide different magnifications.
ArmSupports the upper microscope assembly and provides structural stability.
X-Y Moving CaliperHolds the slide securely and allows controlled movement of the specimen across the stage.
Mechanical StageSupports the microscope slide and provides a stable platform for specimen positioning.
CondenserFocuses illumination onto the specimen to improve image brightness, contrast, and clarity.
Coarse/Fine Focus KnobAdjusts focus. Coarse focus is used for larger movements, while fine focus is used for precise sharpening of the image.
X-Y Stage Control KnobMoves the slide smoothly left/right and forward/backward for precise specimen positioning.
Light SourceProvides transmitted illumination from below the stage for viewing transparent specimens and prepared slides.
Brightness Control KnobAdjusts the intensity of the microscope illumination for comfortable viewing and better contrast.
Digital DisplayShows the remaining battery level as a percentage, so you can see how much power is left.
BaseSupports and stabilizes the microscope and houses key illumination and electrical components.
Note: Microscope features and control layouts may vary by model. Always refer to the product specifications and user manual for model-specific information.
